So, we're welcomed by a 'Tap-tap-tap-tap-tap...tap tap!' tune! "Excellent!", as the Apparently-Emotionless Classic CyberLeader would say.
"I've got mail!" sounds like something a talking computer would say! But, ignoring all Matt's childish antics, it's easy to become interested in the plot.
It started with a classical 'Lured for one's own gain' storyline, and a powerful but predictable one at that. Aunt looked quite kind and caring, whereas Uncle sounded like some drunken Nazi! And, the bizarre IDRIS had me laughing, but cringing I have to admit, throughout the show. Her verfastconversationsthathappenedlikethisquitefrequentlymadeithardformetounderstandwhatshesaid. I found it a bit 'grown up' though. I mean, the whole "Hey, sexy!" and "You stroke me in the wrong places!" and the love bite thing made me squirm.
The Ood FINALLY have a good part to play; not being the innocent "Argh! I'm a slave!" type but more of the "Mwa ha ha! I'm a killer Ood!" genre.
I had to laugh when Uncle died. *Aunt dies* *Uncle stands up, rather drunkenly* "I'm fine..." *Dies*
A fanboy would go "Eek! We've seen three TARDISes, TARDIS corridors and we were supposed to see the Zero Room so that means it MUST be a 10/10 and if you think otherwise you're not a proper Who fan." There's plenty of 'em out there, but, for me, scenery and setting only makes up a minority part of the score. It's the sheer emotion and acting that Suranne Jones and Matt Smith put into this that made it worthwhile. I cried at IDRIS' death at the end and I shall NEVER EVER look at the TARDIS as 'just' a Time Machine; she is, as we all know, the Doctor's 'sexy' wife and always will be in my books.
Oh, and by the way, "The Only Water Is The River [Song]"...
9.5/10 for me; the 0.5 being seeing 2 Rory deaths in one episode!
